Very Heavy Fighter

The Eagle is the explorer's VHF. Among the top-tier very heavy fighters, it offers the best balance of agility, cargo capacity, and combat capability. With 80 cargo units — more than any other VHF — it can run meaningful trade routes while still mounting Class 10 weapons and top-tier shields. This makes it the standard recommendation for players who want to do everything moderately well rather than specialize.

The Eagle is sold at Freeport 9 in the Sigma-17 system. Freeport stations are Zoner-run and accessible to anyone regardless of faction reputation — the challenge is getting to Sigma-17, which is deep in border world territory accessible through Kusari and the Sigma system chain. The journey itself is part of the experience: navigating through increasingly dangerous space to reach a neutral trading post at the edge of known territory.

In combat, the Eagle trades raw hull points for agility. At 10,200 armor it's notably less durable than the Titan's 12,600, but it handles more responsively — turning faster, recovering from drifts quicker, and generally feeling more like a heavy fighter than a flying fortress. For pilots who prefer to avoid incoming fire rather than absorb it, the Eagle is the right choice.
