Starflier
Light Fighter
The Starflier is where every pilot starts. You wake up on Planet Manhattan with one in the hangar and a mission to keep you moving. It is a light fighter by every definition: modest armor, a small cargo hold, four gun hardpoints capped at Class 5, and no turret slots at all. In the opening hours of the campaign it does exactly what it needs to do — survive the tutorial corridors, complete the early missions, and keep you alive long enough to afford something better.
The transition away from the Starflier is one of the clearest progression moments in the game. When you first sit in a Heavy Fighter, everything that felt acceptable about the Starflier suddenly feels like a handicap. More hull, more guns, a real shield class, meaningful cargo. The Starflier isn't a bad ship — it handles nimbly and points exactly where you tell it to — but the game is designed so that outgrowing it feels like a reward. Most players complete Missions 1–3 in it and then never look back.
The Starflier is available at most Liberty shipyards and outfitters for around 17,000 credits. You can also find variations on the light fighter chassis sold under other names by different factions throughout the houses — the Starflier is the Liberty civilian version, but the underlying class shows up everywhere.
